Dating Tips for Men: Are You Overthinking Your First Interaction?

We always share dating tips for men with our clients. One dating tip that keeps coming up is that on a casual date you must not make any assumptions. Here’s what happened when Jack assumed the worst.

Jack called to tell us that Jill did not show up for her first IJL date with him at Mie N Yu in Georgetown. He was not very happy so when we called Jill to find out what happened, she said that she did in fact call the restaurant and leave him a message. She had gotten stuck in a board meeting until 8:30 that evening. There was no call to the restaurant.

When we told Jack, his immediate response was to assume that Jill was lying. In fact he said, “Well that’s interesting because I was with a director of Homeland Security earlier that evening and there was no board meeting yesterday.” Inspector Jack, went on the defense and immediately became a reporter. This lead to all kinds of assumptions, after which he ended up hurting his own feelings, with a scenario that may or may not have been the case.

So who was in the right? Was it obvious that Jill was lying or do you think that Jack’s reaction was paranoid and defensive? Was it possible that there was a homeland security meeting that not everyone was privy to?
