I believe we all know the expression, do unto others, as you would have them (Say It With Me) do unto you.  This is particularly key when we are meeting our dates. Especially the first time. This is your first impression, after all.

So why do you believe that Jack, did not hold himself to the same standards that he expected of his dates?

OK, so I get the Bob Ross “happy little clouds” look. He seems to have a very friendly smile and disposition.

BUT, even he wore a proper collar.  I have to say, faded blue turtle neck?? Not so hot!

Your Dating Diva feels that unless you are the re-incarnation of Steve Jobs, please keep those tight turtle necks, locled away until their next comeback in 15-20 years. Furthermore, gentilemen, if your turtlenecks are faded, there are plenty of shelters that need to keep our homeless warm next winter.

Let’s take Jack and Jill for example. When I heard their feedback, I realized they were both guilty of the same dating don’t. Let’s see how both Jack and Jill, misunderstood what it means to be genuine, on this DC date…

While it’s important to be honest, this does not mean bringing all of your baggage to your dates, especially the first date. We all have lives, we certainly all have pasts, families, and past relationships. No one expects you not to. But if you lead with your past, you are not giving the person across the table from you the opportunity to get to know you first.

Your Dating Diva wants your to understand that not involving your date in every single aspect of your life is in no way dishonest. The first date is about getting to know the other person. You need to allow yourself to be seen as an individual. If you lead with your baggage, the only thing your DC date will remember about you is that baggage. Give yourself a shot.

Topics appropriate for first dates are most effective when kept light and positive. Once you have both gotten to know a bit about each other, then you can begin to let them into your life.

If you find yourself leading with other things in your life, and bringing this to the date, you may want to ask yourself, “Is this what I think that I am worth? Is this who I think I am?”

The best quote that I heard from Jill, through this ordeal was. “I really didn’t like anyone else, except for Jack!”  Well Jill, that’s exactly the point. You were not supposed to like anyone until you finally found your Jack. Bravo, Jill, for keeping a positive attitude and recognizing on each date that “Its Just Lunch” a quick bite, or drink, to find out if you want to spend more time with this person. Persistence paid off! You found your Jack, we wish you both all of the best!

Both Jack and Jill are the adventurous type. She has been on safari, was in the peace corp and lived in Europe for 3 years. Jack has traveled throughout the world extensively, and is always sharing his experiences with the crazy dishes he tries on his Anthony Buordain, “No Reservations” type trips across the world!

Much to his she-grin, Jack had completely lost touch with Jill. It was only when Jenna set them up once again that they reconnected and re-kindled an old flame.

Your Dating Diva wants to know your opinion of this love story. Do you believe that Jack and Jill were destined to be together, or was this happy ending all due to the efforts of the Matchmakers, Dating Consultants  and daters involved?

As Your Dating Diva always says, “Dress for the date you want!” I am not banging some 1950s gong, that all women must adhere to certain rules in order to be acceptable. No, not this It’s Just Lunch Diva! This rule applied across the board to men and women.

Ok here’ s an analogy DC daters. “Dress for the date you want!” is a hybrid, if you will, of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” and “Dress for success”  Why, you ask.

Here’s the breakdown:

I hear time and time again, that people want whomever is sitting across the table from them to put a little effort into the date. This includes cleaning oneself up a bit. Putting thought into your presentation (yourself), you do only have one chance to make a first impression. These same clients, will show up to dates however they chose,  having put zero thought into their presentation. “Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.”

The idea of “Dress for success” not only applies to your outfit, but also to your whole demeanor and psychology. If you want to have a great date,  one that respects you and vise versa, you should be presenting yourself as someone who wants a great date. Dress like you want your love life to be successful. Details do matter. Put a little extra time into maintaining a positive outlook and you will attract what you put out!

We heard that our client Jill was getting along famously, with the first 2 dates we sent her out on..and then, no call back. Her dates feedback was that they liked her as well…HMM, what’s going on here? We invited Jill in once again and asked her to wear what she had on on her dates…

OK, we’ve heard some crazy, terrible, wonderful, terrific dating stories in our 20 years of first dates here at It’s Just Lunch. The outcome of the majority of these DC date tales can be predictable if one adheres to the general dating principles we teach our clients…But, when I heard about this DC dating story, I have to say, I actually had mixed feelings about Jack’s actions.
